Melbourne Startup Weteachme Launches
Weteachme, the new Melbourne startup that connects people wanting to learn with people willing to teach them things, held its formal launch in Melbourne last week and Techtype was there to catch all the action.
The plucky startup was founded in April this year at Launch48, a startup event matching budding entrepreneurs with complimentary skill sets into teams with the aim of creating bootstrapping startup companies. Since then, the founding team have met with some early seed funding success, including a whirlwind tour of Silicon Valley where they met some successful serial entrepreneurs “that gave us great advice and helped us progress and mature”, according to team member Demi Markogiannaki, adding that the team is currently working on some funding strategies with Venture Capitalists they met on their trip.
Despite the buzz of the Valley, the Weteachme team haven’t lost sight of Melbourne where they are based, and where they held their official launch last week at one of Melbourne’s co-working spaces, The Hub. The event was all about happily inspiring the crowd with a selection of speed lessons from some of the site’s teachers, including lessons on how to make cup cakes, cure public speaking phobias, play the ukulele and even a lesson on making drinkable cocktails from the dregs left over from last night’s party (which was one of the most popular mini lessons attended on the night!).
Currently, there is over 250 classes on the website, from fitness classes including Filipino martial arts, to public speaking courses, Ukulele lessons and wine tasting.
Like many bootstrapping startups, the Weteachme team brings energy and passion to their vision with the belief that they can make the world a better place and give opportunity to lots of people to develop their skills, share their passions and enable people to create a feasible business out of what they love doing the most.
If their launch event was anything to go by, they’re on their way! Check out our launch pics here!
